Handpainted wall plaque created from series of drawings and scribbles that explore my response to my own trauma due to experiences both professionally and personally. The two-finger salute, also known as the V-sign, has multiple meanings depending on the context.
A gesture of defiance made by English archers at the Battle of Agincourt in 1415. The story goes that the French cut off the index and middle fingers of captured archers so they could no longer use their bows, and the victorious archers used the V-sign to show their defiance.
This work is a nod to defiance, struggle and resilience. It is a metaphor as much as it is a statement. The white band aid wrapped the finger signifies wounds inflicted by the relentless battle endured whilst fighting for acceptance, inclusion and respect. To be seen in an Artworld that excludes by age, class, social positioning and art education
All issues I have experienced in a business that is brutal where parasites swarm and contradicts the sensitivity and beauty of creating a piece of Art.
